Hebru Brantley
Hebru Brantley was born in Chicago, USA. He is currently based in Los Angeles.
He holds a B.A. in Film Studies from Clark Atlanta University and has a background in design and media illustration.
Hebru’s work revolves around iconic characters, conceptualized to tackle complex ideas of nostalgia, spirit, power, and hope.
The color scheme, pop art motifs, and the characters themselves make the multilayered, multifaceted work more accessible.
Heavily influenced by the Africobra movement on the South Side of Chicago in the 1960s and 1970s, he works within the genealogy of mural painting, using a variety of painting materials from oil, acrylic, watercolor, and spray to non-traditional materials such as coffee and tea to explore his own questions.
