Now in its 16th year, Kobe Art Marche remains one of my favorite art events. Held in spring on the upper floors of a hotel set right on a pier stretching into the Seto Inland Sea, the venue has a distinctively exotic charm.

Each year, nearly 50 top-quality galleries transform the hotel rooms into vibrant art spaces, putting their creativity on full display to delight collectors and fans alike. This year was no exception—with exciting new works, emerging artists, and an atmosphere so engaging that time seemed to slip away.

I had the chance to meet several promising young artists, many of whom defy the stereotypical “painter” image with their warm, open, and friendly personalities.

Among them, one standout is Kanji Kurihara, selected as one of the top recommended artists of 2025. His technique is truly unique, and his works are instantly recognizable. What’s more, his ability to continually express fresh, innovative ideas makes him a talent to watch.

This work marks Kanji Kurihara’s first attempt at a new painting approach.

Its simple composition allows the meticulously calculated details to stand out—adding unexpected depth and impact to the entire piece.

The more I look at it, the more it draws me in.

Another favorite of mine is Yusuke Kitsukawa, known for his nighttime cityscapes. While his Tokyo Tower series—seen from above—is especially popular, I personally love his street-view scenes that evoke a more grounded, emotional connection.

A nighttime scene that gently flows into the heart and melts away with warmth—something I imagine many people would naturally be drawn to.

Also worth mentioning is Kyoko Dufaux, based in Paris, whose rich, expressive brushwork brings a luxurious warmth to each piece.

This piece is said to be part of her “Momotaro” series.

A little monkey sits peacefully on a chair, gazing out at a European townscape.

There’s something so gentle in the air of this work—it quietly softens the heart, like being wrapped in gentle sunlight.

Once again, the event delivered far beyond expectations. I’m already looking forward to next year.

If you’re interested in attending in 2026, feel free to contact me—I’d be happy to offer you a VIP invitation.
